ISLAMABAD, April 26: A group of pioneering women journalists has produced a series of radio programmes profiling the lives and times of Pakistani women of substance.

The 15-minute radio programme - Shakhsi Khakey - depicts the famous and not so famous women from different walks of life. The programme is produced by Meri Awaz Suno, the all women production house based in Islamabad, says a press release.

Produced professionally at a state-of-the-art digital production studio by women producers, the programme speaks about Pakistani women workers, the challenges they face and struggles they have had to overcome to achieve their targets.

Nabeela Aslam, executive producer, says about the programme: “Be it the nazim of a rural Sindh district, a woman educator working in threatening tribal milieu in the NWFP or a sex worker in Hyderabad supporting a family of six with her daily wages, the stories of these women’s courage and perseverance gives us a glimpse of Pakistani society rarely see through the eyes of mainstream media.”

Meri Awaz Suno started in 2003 as Pakistan’s first syndicated radio programme produced by independent women journalists. Now it is a production house that develops and distributes a range of radio programme in Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi and Pashto. About 20 FM stations across the country air programmes produced by the group.
